2012 In Review

Someone decided to pull the plug. I’ve no idea who. I have not heard a word about it from AdBusters, but then again in spite of all the hype they were not the major player they were credited for. It is difficult to sum up what happened.

After NATO’s visit to Chicago, Occupy Chicago stopped being about us, and started being about the issues of the local neighborhoods. The big issues, the crony capitalism, the corruption of government by the few at the expense of the many pretty much were swept aside. The issue of economic equity was left in the hands of the few. Crime, murder, rape, disproportionately became the celebrated causes. These are all valid social issues, but out of proportion with the reason which Occupy Wall Street hit the street. The first teacher’s strike in twenty-five years had the support of Occupy, but the support never became mutual. Once the strike was over, Occupy Chicago was all but forgotten. The challenges to the limitless resources to the Neo-Feudal Class gave way to scathing cyber-attacks on anyone who was not part of the "in" crowd. That is to say, attacks on anyone who pointed out the hypocrisy of the new Occupy. Unfounded accusations of felony assaults led to witch hunting mobs looking to murder the accused in self-righteous viral displays of hatred. And often this was displayed towards the mature, less connected members of the first occupiers. It was as if technologically savvy street gangs took over the movement. All that mattered was the will of the mob, and there was no accountability whatsoever.

There is some information drifting through the "cloud" which indicates that the rank and file of Occupy who can still make it to the General Assembly has regained some control. At this point I'd say the "cool kid" "in" crowd has lost interest. As the mature Occupiers are start to regain control this could be Occupy 2.0 that has been sought.

At 02:35 on Sunday, December 30, 2012 the I was told, "I refuse to turn yet another conversation about women and minorities into how hard it is to be a white man."  The retort smacks of racism, and sexism and does not show the realignment of Occupy Chicago to the original goals of an all inclusive protest against the collective abuses by the ruling class in the USA. The one thing is certain if  occupy  does not have concern about the people in front of them, and brag about it in arrogance, how is anyone supposed to take them seriously about looking for the welfare of the "people"? Mostly they only look out for their own peers and (academically speaking) cohorts no one else need to bother them. At best they have become a club, at worst they are a street gang.

I don't know what to make of these latter conversations. They show a conflict, and on-going turmoil. At the same time it may also be misinformation. I know that I no longer trust any of the people I use to know from Occupy Chicago. In a city that is known for murdering people on the flimsiest excuse, I am not sure that my own safety is not compromised. I have been told by a reputable inside source that the Radicals of Occupy are out for blood. I don't know if that was a euphemism or an exaggeration, or a veiled threat. From what I have seen on-line I am leaning toward it being a threat. And, to date, other than posting this here to flag what is going on, there has yet to be any accountability for the implied threats made 2012's Occupy Chicago.

That sums up Occupy Chicago in 2012. A movement of dashed hopes turning upon itself because the hard work of toppling the real culprits of society’s ill is tough. It is easier to scapegoat those within the movement then take on the Multi-National Corporations in the board rooms where they plot to strangle the people for their own criminal gain.

There is a question begging for an answer: How the hell did Occupy Chicago go from "We are the 99%" to, as posted by a well known white, woman from Occupy Chicago, "No white, male speaks for me"? What kind of sickness has gripped Occupy?
